James McMurtry writes like he’s lived a lifetime. His lyrics inhabit characters from all walks of life, at times sardonic, subversive and funny, but often vulnerable and always poignant. His newest record, The Horse and the Hounds released in June 2021, is his first in seven years. Winner of multiple Americana Music Associations Awards, McMurtry is anartist who performs real music for real people – and “these days, he’s working at the top of his game” (Jason Isbell).
