Mwenso & The Shakes are a unique troupe of artists from around the globe who wound up in Harlem, where they present music that conveys both the sophistication and spontaneity of hardcore jazz and its folk roots.

With impeccable craft, creativity and communicative flair, these artists create a vivid scene with each song – spoken and sung dialogue journeys through somber swaths of sound and high-intensity, freewheeling rowdiness. Taking from the stylings of African and Afro American music icons – including Fats Waller, Muddy Waters, James Brown and others – Mwenso & The Shakes lead an electrifying show that The New York Times calls “intense, prowling and ebullient.”
