Apollo’s Fire – Baroque Orchestra
Vivaldi’s Four Seasons: Rediscovered
DATE: Saturday, Feb. 29, 8pm
LOCATION: Baum Walker Hall at Walton Arts Center
Named for the classical god of music and the sun, Apollo’s Fire was founded in 1992 with the vision of an ensemble dedicated to the baroque ideal that music should evoke the various “affekts” or passions in the listeners – whether that be joy, contemplation, rage, despair or triumph.
Hailed as “one of the pre-eminent period-instrument ensembles” (The Independent, London), these performers use every means possible to cast an emotional spell on the audience – rhetoric, gesture, harmony and more – with an intention to take the listeners with them on an emotional journey. In this performance, Vivaldi’s beloved concertos are brought to life as the revolutionary acts of musical storytelling they were meant to be. If you think you know the Four Seasons, prepare to be surprised!
