Broadway Leading Lady Janet Dacal Assumes the Role of Dina in The Band’s Visit North American Tour, Coming to Walton Arts Center

NORTHWEST ARKANSAS, November 22, 2019 – Producers of the 10-time Tony® award-winning Best Musical The Band’s Visitannounced today that Broadway star Janet Dacal will assume the principal role of Dina on tour.

On Broadway, Dacal starred in Hal Prince’s Prince of Broadway where she sung multiple roles including Eva Peron in Evita; Aurora in Kiss of A Spider Woman and Sydney in It's a Bird, It's A Plane, It’s Superman.

She created the role of Alice in Frank Wildhorn’s Wonderland and played Nina Rosario in the Tony award-winning musical In the Heights, after originating the role of Carla in the Off-Broadway and Broadway productions (for which she received a Drama Desk award). Additional favorite theatrical roles include co-starring alongside Harry Connick, Jr. in the Paper Mill Playhouse production of The Sting.

“We are honored to have Broadway star Janet Dacal join the critically acclaimed national tour of The Band’s Visit. She brings a new warmth and honesty to the part that we are excited for audiences to experience,” says Tony award-winning director, David Cromer.

She will debut alongside Israeli star of stage and screen Sasson Gabay, who plays Tewfiq, a role he created in the 2007 film of The Band’s Visit and most recently played on Broadway. Gabay has performed the role across the country since the tour opened in June 2019.

The Band’s Visittells a delightfully offbeat story. Set in a town that’s way off the beaten path, a band of musicians arrive lost, out of the blue. Under the spell of the desert sky, and with beautiful music perfuming the air, the band brings the town to life in unexpected and tantalizing ways. Even the briefest visit can stay with you forever.

With a Tony- and Grammy-winning score that seduces your soul and sweeps you off your feet, and featuring thrillingly talented onstage musicians, The Band’s Visitrejoices in the way music makes us laugh, makes us cry, and ultimately, brings us together.

The Band’s Visitoriginal Broadway cast album received the 2019 Grammy® award for Best Musical Theater Album. The musical is also the recipient of a 2019 Daytime Emmy® award for a performance of “Answer Me” on NBC’s “Today.”

The Band’s Visit comes to Walton Arts Center for eight performances May 19-23, 2020. Tickets start at $32 plus applicable fees and can be purchased in-person at the Walton Arts Center and Walmart AMP box offices, by calling 479.443.5600 or by visiting waltonartscenter.org.
