In 1965, Arlo Guthrie wrote a folk song about a series of incredulous events that began on Thanksgiving day. “Alice’s Restaurant Massacre” struck a chord with the anti-war counterculture, and by 1967, Guthrie had gone from playing small clubs to playing festivals and stadiums.
Since then, he has come to be known to generations as a prolific songwriter, social commentator, master storyteller, actor, activist and iconic figure in folk music in his own right with a distinguished and varied career spanning over 50 years. Commemorating the 50th anniversary of Alice’s Restaurant – a movie based on his song in which he plays himself – Guthrie returns to Northwest Arkansas on a tour that sets the 18-minute monologue that brought him fame and fortune front and center.
