For more than 30 years, Ballet Memphis has worked to build a company recognized for its close ties to the region’s rich musical and literary heritage through dance.
Called “unorthodox, peculiar, fresh and large-spirited” by The New York Times, Ballet Memphis is known for fearless risk-taking and a deliberate diversity reflective of its origin. In this program, Ballet Memphis will perform one piece from the company’s River Project series – which depicts scenes and cultural traditions from the southern end of the Mighty Mississippi, a river famous in both song and literature – alongside a traditional romantic ballet choreographed through the lens of a contemporary woman, and a final piece choreographed by one of our country’s most talented ballet choreographers Matthew Neenan.
