For more than 30 years, Ballet Memphis has worked to build a company recognized for its close ties to the region’s rich musical and literary heritage through dance.
Called “unorthodox, peculiar, fresh and largespirited” by The New York Times, Ballet Memphis is known for fearless risk-taking and a deliberate diversity reflective of its origin. In this program, Ballet Memphis will perform one piece from the company’s River Project series – which depicts scenes and cultural traditions from the southern end of the Mighty Mississippi, a river famous in both song and literature – alongside a traditional romantic ballet choreographed through the lens of a contemporary woman, and a final piece choreographed by one of our country’s most talented ballet choreographers Matthew Neenan.
