POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
JOB TITLE: Public Relations Intern
DEPARTMENT: Communications
DATE PREPARED: April 2021
REPORTS TO: Public Relations Senior Coordinator
JOB SUMMARY: Provide public relations support to Public Relations Team and larger Communications Department.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to think creatively and work independently
- Maintain an energetic, positive, professional attitude.
- Ability to multi-task and handle multiple projects at one time.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should be juniors or seniors majoring in advertising/public relations, journalism or communications. Interns are encouraged to apply for class credit through their University.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Work directly with the Public Relations Senior Coordinator on all aspects of publicizing the organization, including but not limited to:
- Writing press releases for Walton Arts Center and the Walmart AMP
- Writing blog posts and magazine columns
- Attending and working shows or events
- Generating ideas for social media through show research
- Community outreach coordination and staffing
REQUIREMENTS: Must have reliable mode of transportation to attend community events and shows. Must be available to work approximately 15 hours/week.
While this is not a paid internship, WAC offers a $500 stipend for the semester, reimbursement for mileage and complementary tickets to performances when available.
