Part of the 10x10 Arts Series!

The performance of Edward Simon and Afinidad, presented in collaboration with Brubeck Institute and Western Michigan University, is supported by Presenter Consortium for Jazz, a program of Chamber Music America funded through the generosity of the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.

Incorporating musical traditions from Europe, Africa, North and South America, this four-movement suite explores the cross-cultural meanings of numbers and the possibilities offered by bringing jazz and classical musicians together. Fueled by his desire to break boundaries through improvised music, internationally renowned jazz pianist Edward Simon and his jazz quartet, Afinidad, team up with the classical chamber ensemble Imani Winds, challenging the improvisational and interpretive skills of the classical musicians and inviting the jazz musicians into the more formal structure offered by classical music. See what happens when these talented musicians are challenged to take on a new approach in House of Numbers!
House of Numbers was commissioned by Chamber Music America's New Jazz Works, funded through the generosity of the Doris Duke Foundation.
