Walton Arts Center Hosts U of A Blood Drive
NORTHWEST ARKANSAS, January 29, 2021 –Walton Arts Center will host a one-day blood drive by the University of Arkansas Red Cross Student Organization 11 am until 6 pm on Tuesday, Feb. 2. Donation appointments are still available and can be made at redcrossblood.org.
Live entertainment will be provided for blood donors. Entertainment for community blood drives along with Saturday Cinema, other small concerts and performances are part of Procter & Gamble Ghost Light Programming, made possible in part by supporters of the Ghost Light Recovery Fund.
Walton Arts Center began hosting blood drives with live entertainment in May 2020 when the demand for blood rose due to the COVID-19 pandemic and musicians were struggling as live performances were halted. This is the first blood drive of 2021 and the seventh blood drive at a Walton Arts Center venue since May.
There will be breaks before and after each performance to allow time to set up, break down and sanitize the performance space. The entertainment schedule for the blood drive is:
- 11:30am–1pm - Christian Serrano-Torres, cello
- 1:40–3:15pm - Beth Stockdell, harp
- 4-5:30pm - Ben Harris, guitar
All blood and plasma donation will be screened for COVID-19 antibodies and all donors will receive a $5 Amazon E-Gift Card via mail after their donation. Because of anticipated high interest in the antibody screening, donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment prior to arrival.
In addition to the standard safety protocols followed by Red Cross staff during blood drives, there will be donor temperature checks before entering and everyone will be required to wear a mask and practice social distancing. Hand sanitizer will be provided throughout donation appointments and all surfaces will be sanitized using enhanced disinfecting practices.
