Livvy Pierce is a soon-to-be graduate from the University of Arkansas, currently working on a Studio Art BFA with an emphasis in Graphic Design. Her typographic moss project, Things I am Learning in My Twenties began as her honors thesis. Through this project, she has found interest in unconventional typography in three-dimensional form and experienced growth as an artist and a human. Each quote is taken from a larger body of work and transplanted into a new context – on a public wall using live moss. By taking these phrases out of the literary context, they take on a new life with every person that chooses to interact with it. There is multiplicity in each statement; each person reads them through the filter of their personal experience such that each fragment of thought continues to grow with each person, the same way that the live moss is growing. This process – of deconstruction and reassembling of thought – is a mirror of the natural world. Just as the moss is reconstructed into a new form that is each quote, nature herself continues to recycle the old into new. Livvy Pierce’s installation can be found on the exterior wall of Walton Arts Center’s Rosen Rose Garden, facing Dickson Street, throughout the month of May.
